Pedals and Bones
by Kris Force, Seiyoung Jang and Anastasia Reshetikhin

Pedal and Bones is a collaborative work for for three players, prepared piano, metal objects, bone conducting transducers, spectral synthesizer and water sample conceived by Kris Force, Seiyoung Jang and Anastasia Reshetikhin. The writings and scores of Kaija Saariaho were used as a point of departure in the making of Pedals and Bones. All sounds for the piece, acoustic and actuated, are performed on and through the piano. The piece begins with one performer redrawing the painting with a spectral synthesizer (virtual ANS synthesizer) which is playing back through a transducer on the piano sound board. One player performs the keys and pedal and the third, the strings with metal objects. The piece ends when the drawing on the spectral synthesizer is erased back to silence. Pedals and Bones employs texture and timbre as it's dynamic center.
